My name is Bex Sowden and I attended the College of William & Mary in Virginia, U.S.A from 2000 - 2004 on a soccer scholarship. Since returning to New Zealand with a Business degree I have been employed in marketing roles with TVNZ and FIFA and have also run my own communication ventures.
I commenced my degree 6 months after finishing my last year of high school and consider my 4 year experience one of the best of my life. I believe that the reason I had such a positive experience was because I attended a university that offered me what I wanted academically, athletically and socially from a university. There are other Kiwis who have not had as good an experience as I did and I think this is because they ended up at universities that did not match what they wanted from their university experience and I believe this primarily came about due to a lack of understanding of the complex American university system. There are over 3600 universities in the U.S.A and the university and sports structure is very complex. There is an exorbitant amount of information out there so I have collated a resource that provides students and their parents with the most important and best information presented in a simple format to give them the greatest opportunity to gain an understanding of the university system and processes they need to follow as a Kiwi to allow them to make informed decisions in hopes of securing a sports scholarship at a university that provieds the experience they desire. Please note I am not an agent who can place you at an American university and secure you a scholarship. |
